If you live in the St. Louis area, please enjoy the blooming trees on my behalf.
The Missouri Botanical Garden‘s cherry trees are blooming, as you can see in the below video. Don’t forget that residents of St. Louis City and County (with proof of residency) receive free general admission on Wednesdays and Saturdays before noon.
While I was in St. Louis, I looked for signs of spring at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Spring seemed a little late this year—the flowering trees were not yet blooming, but they did have large buds. Here’s what I saw:
Saturday, Barb and I went to the Butterfly House for March Morpho Mania. Every March they release thousands of blue morpho butterflies into the conservatory. It was amazing—but extremely hard to capture with a camera. They flutter so quickly. I did manage this composite photo. The blue was much brighter in real life.
I took a trip to St. Louis May 31 through June 9. It ended up not quite like I expected.
I started out staying with my good friend Sandy. That first evening we spent some time in her awesome backyard:
The next day I was off to Shaw Nature Reserve for a retreat with the Education Staff.
It was a gorgeous day:
And we said goodbye to Barb. We’ll all miss her. (No picture of her here since I don’t want to incur the wrath of Barb!)
Next time: A horrible accident and a fabulous trip to central Missouri…

I was back in St. Louis this past weekend and saw tons of people (really) though none of the pix came out well.
So I shall have to show you the Chihuly exhibit of blown glass now at the Missouri Botanical Garden:
And my sweet, former bunny Teddy, who actually came up to me, sniffed me, and sat under my chair!
The reason for the trip was for Liza’s wedding.
